James Monroe was born in 1758 and died in 1831. He was the fifth president of the United States of America (1817-1825). His era was also known as the “era of good feeling.” His Democratic Party was very strong, so he won election very easily. James Monroe was very popular at the time. During his 15-week tour, when he visited Massachusetts, the Boston newspaper called that reception the start of an “era of good feelings.”

James Monroe was known by a few very important things for the history:

Monroe Doctrine, his foreign policy against the European further colonizations .Monrovia, the capital of Liberia (Africa), got its name from him, because James Monroe supported slaves returning to their country. As a matter of fact, Liberia is founded by freed American slaves. He was the first President who became also a Senator.

James Monroe died on July 4, the Independance Day in America.
